Hong Kong for CNY 2014. Part II

Just a brief explanation of Hong Kong's geography before I start this post so it's not so confusing. There are 3 main islands that made up the country: HK Island 香港岛, Mong Kok 旺角 and Lantau Island 大嶼山.

HK Island: Victoria Peak 太平山 & Ocean Park 海洋公园
Mong Kok: Star Avenue 星光大道, Ladies Market 女人街 & Wong Tai Sin 黄大仙
Lautau Island: Airport, Disneyland & Ngong Ping 360 昂坪 (Cable car)

You may take the MTR (LRT) to all three islands and just walk or fetch a cab to your location. It's very convenient, alike Singapore, unlike Malaysia haha.

The reason we went to Disneyland the first day we reach HK aka second day of CNY 初二 is cause we imagined the place to be less crowded as most people are still busying with door-to-door ang pow collection 拜年. So exploring HK Island the second day aka third day of CNY 初三 seems pretty much logical.

Day 2: Hong Kong Island

We started our day by basically doing nothing in Central. It was not because we wanted to waste time, there was nothing to do, nothing for us to see! I mean, it was the third day of CNY. What do you expect? Nothing was opened, not much people and car on the streets, we could just lay on the middle of the road if we wanted to.

Central is like a major town center with office buildings, shop lots selling medicines or seafood, high-end-brand outlets and basically everything you can think of. It was only 12pm so we decided to randomly get on one of those super old-fashioned double decker tram and just ride off to the sunset hahaha.

It was only after two hours of walking and whining about food that I realised that I was already at the place of where I wanted to go. How stupid of me OMG.

Starbucks Coffee @ Duddell Street 都爹利街, also known as Starbucks Bing Sutt 星巴克冰室. A very hidden location, seriously if it wasn't for my friend's randomness that let her found it the last time she came, I wouldn't have found it.
The Duddell Street Starbucks in Central is the World’s first-ever Starbucks store to incorporate a BING SUTT corner - fusing together a nostalgic retro style with a contemporary coffeehouse design. Set below Duddell Street’s historically renowned staircase and gas lamps, this inspiring, creative and burgeoning area for the arts highlights Hong Kong’s richness of local culture. Duddell Street Starbucks is a blend of Western modernization and Eastern traditions that celebrates the timeless heritage of coffee in Hong Kong, both past and present. Partnered with local lifestyle brand G.O.D., the corner of the Duddell Street Starbucks was transformed into a “BING SUTT” with decorations and traits to blend the Hong Kong style from the ‘50s through the ‘70s with today’s sensibilities. Stepping into the Duddell Street Starbucks will be like stepping back in time. —— Starbucks.hk
Don't tell me you've never seen this staircase before. It's like in almost every HK drama/movie/MV!

After resting our feets, we went to visit the world's longest escalator located between Central and Mid-levels 半山.You can't even find a picture of it in Google because there was no possible way to photograph it. The entire system covers over 800m in distance and elevates over 135m from bottom to top!

We later on walked to The Peak Tramway station to ride to the top of Victoria Peak 太平山. Spotted this awesome quote on a window of a somewhat-hipster-looking-abandoned building.

We were lied to! The locals of HK lied to us that it was only a 15-minutes walk to the tram station, it was not. We walked beside highways and looked like those kind of stupid-looking tourists checking out maps and being lost.

By the time we finally found the place, it was already too full of people. I mean like you have to line up for at least 3 hours to just buy the tickets, not even taking in the time to line up for the ride and actually going up. So we decided to pay extremely expensive taxi fares to save our time. Even lining up for taxi was stupidly long, the frustration you can't imagine.

Because we had a total of 6 family members, we couldn't just take a cab - we were all too fat, we couldn't fit inside one cab even if the law allowed us - so we separately shared it with strangers. I was lucky enough to have sat in the same one with two girls from France, too bad my French was too rusty I couldn't communicate with them ):

Being in HK without having any mobile network, we couldn't keep in contact with the other taxi that my mom took. Me, my dad and one sister actually waited for an hour to finally realised that my mom and two other sisters were waiting for us at the taxi station.

Look at all the China tourists. Rich and arrogant mofo, oops.

Finally I'm at the top of the world! Nope, only at The Peak of HK. What a great view, ain't it? Was listening to an audio tour and enjoying the cool air.

After watching the sunset and took unbelievable amount of pictures of the scenery, we went to Madame Tussauds Wax Museum 杜莎夫人蠟像館.

So many wax figures, so little time (of camera usage due to drained battery) LOL. Two of the funniest pictures I took awkwardly posing with my awkward smile-not-smile 爱笑不笑 face.

Then we took a 20-minute walk around Lan Kwai Fong, didn't even going into any one of the pubs/clubs for a drink cause we were too tired.

That's only the end of day 2!? I can't believe I dragged this out so long..

..To be continued.
